Troubleshooting

The desktop app does not start on Linux

mcd_gui is built on Tk, which some Linux Pythons leave out. If it reports that tkinter is missing, install your distribution's Tk package, then run mcd_gui again:

sudo apt install python3-tk # Debian, Ubuntu
sudo dnf install python3-tkinter # Fedora

A run uses too much memory

Set the budget yourself with --max-memory on the command line, or Memory cap under Advanced settings in the app — for example 8G. Big canvases are then built in more passes: slower, but within the cap. Memory lists where the automatic budget comes from.

"Nothing to process: these outputs already exist"

With Overwrite existing files off, the default, the app skips a file whose outputs are already in its output folder. Tick it under Advanced settings to replace them.

A run was stopped part-way

  • Stop keeps every file that was already finished.
  • Force stop also deletes whatever was half-written.

Either way, the file being processed has only some of its outputs. Run it again with Overwrite existing files ticked to complete it.

Region files are named ROI_001_2, ROI_7 …

Region files are named after each region's description. When two regions share a description, the repeats get _2, _3 and so on, so neither overwrites the other. Characters not allowed in file names become _, and a region with no description is named after its acquisition ID, as ROI_<id>.

The stitched file is slow to open or pan

Open the _pyramid copy instead, made with Pyramid in the app or --pyramid on the command line. It stores the same pixels as tiles at several resolutions, so a viewer only reads what is on screen.

Still stuck?

Open an issue on the issue tracker. A log file helps: tick Save a log file in the app, or copy the command line's output.
